Report into the Iraq War must be published NOW!

Why after all these years are we stil waiting for the Chilcot Report into the Iraq War to be published?

We the public and most importantly the families have a right to know the truth! The truth will out. Whether you supported the war like Labour and their Conservative friends (rushing to America's side) or opposed it like I did and Plaid Cymru – families have the RIGHT to know, the RIGHT!

Ed Miliband and Labour voted time and again AGAINST establishing the inquiry itself. As did Llanelli MP Nia Griffith (despite an apparent change of heart! – I will discuss this later). Miliband’s stance, like Labour’s in completely shameful and opportunistic – we’re not stupid!

According to Labour activist and supporter Rosemary Emery, Nia and Ed "would like it (the report) published as soon as possible too."

Labour are shamelessly playing politics of the worst kind, with peoples lives. I have a vested interest, I lost a very good school friend due to the actions of the Labour government - his family have an empty seat every Christmas, his son STILL asks when is "daddy coming home?" These people have a right to know. Labour has only found its 'voice' on this issue. Why now I wonder? Wasn't the truth important before?

In Plaid Cymru we've been campaigning for the truth, and we will continue to do so! I will say it again - CHILCOT REPORT MUST BE PUBLISHED NOW!

Labour Llanelli MP voted WITH Tories AND UKIP for £30bn of CUTS!

Labour Llanelli MP Nia Griffith voted with UKIP for £30bn of cuts proposed by the Tories.

PLAID CYMRU CHOSE THE SIDE OF THE PEOPLE. LABOUR CHOSE THE SIDE OF THE TORIES!

Disappointment has been expressed following the approval of the UK Government's 'Charter for Budget Responsibility' which will bind the next Westminster Government to billions of pounds of further austerity.

On Tuesday 13th January, all of the London-controlled parties voted together for £30bn worth of cuts to our public services over the next five years.

The vast majority of Labour MP's including Llanelli's Labour MP voted WITH the Tory-led UK Government. The motion was passed by 515 votes to 18. I am very proud to say that Plaid Cymru chose the side of the people against the side of the Tories. Labour is now truly seen for what it is, an extension of the Conservative Party. In fact could they form a grand coalition following May’s election?

The vote can be viewed here...

There is no doubt that austerity has failed the people of Wales. We have seen a substantial increase in the use of food banks in recent years. How many more people will be impacted upon by this immoral vote? Did Labour MP’s especially, consider the lives that this vote will damage? Did they give the people a second thought?

Why as usual is it the poorest and most vulnerable in our society paying for the greed of the rich? Many people across the Llanelli Constituency will have to decide between heating and eating this winter. We are regressing as a society!

Labour of course has a proud track record of voting with their Conservative friends. They both supported the Welfare Cap. According to Save the Children, the welfare cap will push 345,000 children into poverty in four years.

Labour is signing up to the Tories' ideological strategy. They are playing with people’s lives.

This was a significant vote which proved that Labour MPs from Wales make their decisions based on orders from London, rather than on the needs of their constituents.
It shows nothing short of a betrayal of some of our nation’s most vulnerable people by a Labour party who has now totally turned its back on the people it once claimed to represent. We deserve better as a nation.

I urge voters to ask the Llanelli MP – how in good conscience she could walk shoulder to shoulder with the Conservatives and vote for more of the same – more panic, fear, heartache and pain.

It’s time we rejected austerity. Time we backed the people! Invested in infrastructure, scrap Trident (which is a pathetic immoral waste of money, which Labour and their Tory friends support) and introduced a Robin Hood Tax. Austerity is damaging the many and benefiting the few. Why are bankers still receiving bonuses while the people of Llanelli and beyond freeze or go hungry?

Embedded image permalinkIt's time for a progressive alternative. Let's put people before profit, protect the weak from the strong, the poor from the rich and spend our money for hope not fear, belief not despair and life not death. Let's build a new Llanelli, let's build a new Wales. Let's put Llanelli before London! Let's make a real difference on May 7th!

The ever growing youth team in Llanelli.
What a weekend! It was hectic but great. Saturday morning started off brilliantly. As you'll be aware we have a youth group here in Llanelli - Plaid Ifanc Llanelli. To say they are committed is an understatement! They are simply brilliant and their enthusiasm infectious. We had three new members of the youth team arrive at the office! A very warm welcome to you.

It was also great to welcome Simon Thomas AM (diolch o galon i ti Simon) who with some of the team went to campaign in Swiss Valley. Thanks again to Helen Mary Jones for her tremendous contribution and commitment - DIOLCH!

At 10:00 Mr Owain Phillips arrived from ITV's Sharp End. We chatted briefly about the campaign then it was off to the market in the town centre for the interview. The interview will be broadcast on Monday 12th of January at 2240 on ITV Wales.

From there it was off to the stall and meeting with residents. We discussed a variety of issues from education to health and equally the state of the town centre after 93 years of a Labour MP.
It was great to also visit shop owners in the town - thanks for the warm welcome. The main issue AGAIN - CAR PARKING CHARGES!

Listening to the concerns of local residents.
I have done so many times before in public and shall do so now - I URGE LABOUR-LED CARMARTHENSHIRE COUNCIL TO SCRAP THE PARKING CHARGES IN THE TOWN CENTRE! Labour are penalising people for trying to shop in the town centre! This makes no sense whatsoever! Surely we should be SUPPORTING the town centre anyway we can! Surely!

Saturday afternoon - a visit to Parc y Scarlets to watch us against Cross Keys. From there it was on to a meeting at Ty Bres! What a day! Such a warm welcome and people agreeing that for far too long (93 years in May) we've had London's voice in Llanelli - it's high time we had Llanelli's voice in London.

Sunday, normally a day of rest... not so. More meetings in the morning with the youth team - again a huge thanks to you all - DIOLCH!

From the football, it was.... more meetings. These meeting were extremely productive - thanks to everyone again!

Thanks to everyone for such a warm welcome and poitive response. I look forward to doing it all again next weekend and listening to your views and opinions about the way forward!

Diolch o galon i chi gyd. YMLAEN!

Credit to the youth - Wales' greatest asset!

It was great to see the youngsters in Llanelli getting the credit they truly deserve! The Daily Wales website published a tremendous story regarding the launch of Plaid Ifanc's website. The youngsters in Llanelli are tremendous - I can only pay credit and heap praise on them for the work they do!

The EXCELLENT youth team! YMLAEN
As I’ve said in the past – Wales’ greatest asset is our young people. Their hard work and dedication has been nothing short of amazing and many people have commented on seeing youngsters at the Plaid Cymru stall in town. Credit indeed for you all, and well deserved too!

With young people like this, who demand a fairer, brighter and stronger future for Llanelli and Wales – the future really is bright!

The influence of the Scottish Referendum is viewed as a driving force behind the recent upsurge in support for Plaid’s youth group.
It has seen the recent launch of a new Plaid Ifanc Youth website, the forming of a new Llanelli branch and groups throughout Wales starting to be reestablished.
Around 80 people have joined the society in Aberystwyth University and online support is continuing to grow. The organisation will also be holding its first national conference in March 2015.
Emyr Gruffydd, a spokesperson for Plaid Youth, said:
“Following the inspiring developments in Catalonia and Scotland, we simply can’t continue to stand idly without providing a real alternative for Wales’ youth.
“The problems we face as a society are monumental, and the solutions must therefore be radical.
“We hope that Plaid Cymru Youth’s growing profile will attract young people to build a national movement, focused on achieving national liberation and social justice.”
Despite only having been launched a month ago, the new branch in Llanelli has already become a familiar sight in the town centre with members running a Saturday stall (pictured above).
The chair of the branch is Brett John, who hit the headlines earlier this year when he single-handedly set-up a Question Time debate at his school, Coedcae Comprehensive in Llanelli.
He said:
“I have only been involved in Plaid Cymru for around five months; and even during that time, I’ve witnessed the increased support and interest in the party, and what it stands for.
“In my constituency, Llanelli, we set up a Plaid Cymru Ifanc branch, which has been very useful to help us further engage with the youth; listening what they have to say.
“I believe they admire that we do want to hear them, rather than looking at, as other parties do, a ‘target audience’ – that being when you’re above the age when you can strike a cross on a ballot paper.
“The support we’ve had back for doing so has been remarkable – already resulting in around 13 members; eager to make a difference, eager to fight for a stronger voice for Llanelli – a Plaid Cymru voice.”
The lowering of the voting age to 16 in the Scottish Referendum helped to engage young people with politics. The 16-24 age group voted in favour of independence with 51 percent choosing the ‘yes’ option.
The Plaid Ifanc website can found here and the group can be followed onFacebook and Twitter.
